Tommy Burk
and the Counts were one of the very best
local bands in Memphis in the early to
mid 60s. Their hits included
"Stormy Weather", "Cute", "True Love's
Gone", "You'll Feel It Too", and "Just A
Little Bit".
The
picture below was taken in 1963 at the King
Cotton Hotel in Downtown Memphis where
they performed at the Prom for the
Kingsbury class of 1963.
Tommy Burk became a professor at
Christian Brothers University, and
drummer
Thomas Boggs is now the CEO of
Huey's (voted "Best Burger in Memphis")
every year since 1984. |

I attended many sorority and frat dances that had the Counts as the music.
Thomas Boggs has since passed away and Channel 10 did a great video on the
Garage Bands in which Boggs was interviewed. There was another guy who
they interviewed on the tape, Wayne Thompson who played guitar with the
Counts. He went to CBHS, they played a lot at Little Flower CYO on Sunday
nights. Ronnie Angel played too. Does anyone remember B. B. Cinningham, I
went to school with him at Messick.
