1960s
Local TV
|
-
Trent Wood's "Looney Zoo" had his sidekick clown
Tiny. Then later Happy Hal had his toy store.
-
"Studio
Wrestling" was hosted by Lance Russell and Dave
Brown (whose hair still matched his last name).
-
Dick Williams
wore his red plaid jacket while performing
magic.
-
Channel 13 had its
"Dialing for Dollars" movie, in which you could
call in during the commercial breaks and win
money.

Fantastic Features

"Good Eveeenning!"

-
Sivad (above)
hosted "Fantastic
Features" on Saturday nights on Channel 13 from the
early 1960s until 1972.
-
Sivad was
actually local actor and Malco advertising director Watson
Davis. His macabre-sounding stage name was
really just his last name spelled backwards.

Re: Fantastic Features. I remember going to the downtown christmas parade
in Memphis and seeing Sivad(in costume of course) in a big black caddy
convertible with a gorilla(someone in dress up also) on a chain and Sivad
with a giant cartoon like mallet. It was great! As kids we would stay up
late and watch Fantastic Features and be sleepy in church the next morning.
It was worth it.

I remember entering the weekly TV talent show for children from three to
twelve years old, that Trent Wood hosted, back in 1952. It was early that
year and I was twelve. But, I didn't get on until Oct. 31st. I turned
thirteen the next day. I sung Frankie and Johnny, won a wrist watch but
lost in the return round. How time as flown!

My sister and I danced on a local children's show about 1962.I was born in
1959, so the year is almost certain as I was three at the time. I remember
it was a children's show and that the host was male. No one else danced
that day and it wasn't just talent acts. I have gotten responses from
people, but several contradictions. Any ideas from anyone? I would love to
find video or even a photo; my sister died several years ago.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've chased so many leads-it's hard to believe
no one knows for sure and no one has tapes. I appreciate it.
