What about rock 103. there was a DJ named "Red Beard" what ever happened to that station? I don't live in Memphis any more but grew up there from 1959 to 1979 and my parents still live there. Love this web site

I worked 4 years at WZXR, Rock 103 as weekend DJ and intrepid traffic reporter...the "Zeppelin Lady" during the week. I was also known briefly as "Switchboard Susan"on the weekends.
I never did work with Red Beard (after my time?)...I worked with Tom Owens, Debbie, Stuart McRae, Rick (?) on the weekends, and "The Prince of Darkness".
I ran the "Album Trilogy" on Saturday evenings, when all the crazies would call and invite me to their parties.

I do not have any preserved audio, thank goodness....just very interesting memories.
(Hey, Dale! Sorry to bug ya, just surfin' the 'net finding Dale's websites after watching that groundbreaking film, "Pursued". I am still chuckling. :-)

One more thing. I was there when Rock 103 began. I was with them when automated country...can you imagine?

Another memory...from earlier in my radio career...
I was working at WREC radio the day the reports were coming in about Elvis' death. The station was still in the basement of the Peabody Hotel and we were running about in shock as the calls from Baptist Hospital were being phoned in. I was not announcing that afternoon, but I was in the booth as the first announcements went out.
(I have another Elvis' death story associated with Baptist Hospital)

I just found this site. I've been with Rock 103 since its inception. Any questions, let me know.

Hey there Susan and Rick. Great to see you both here too. We need to start an 'Alumni of Rock 103' group on Facebook.

Susan, I was dubbing some old tapes to digital earlier this year and found an air check of you from 1979.

Hey guys, long time. I was doing 7-mid when Rock 103 first signed on. I remember a lot of us wanted to call it Z-103 but Abrams said Rock 103 says what and where it is. I guess he was right. Gary, I didn't know you were still there, good to see you. You also worked at WMC-AM when I was at FM100 as I recall. Anybody know where Bill Thomas is these days? I also worked with him when I was at Sam Phillips' station in Florence, Ala WQLT.

Hey Susan, are you still in Memphis? I'm a writer now for the Daily News and the Examiner.
